Did You Know? In Pennsylvania, an estimated 9,380 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed among women in 2009 and 2,070 women will die of the disease.
In 2009 Komen for the Cure has granted almost $8.3 million in research grants to institutions in Pennsylvania including Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, Thomas Jefferson University, Fox Chase Cancer Center, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, and the University of Pittsburgh.
In Pennsylvania, the Northeastern, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh Komen Affiliates invested almost $7.3 million in local communities last year for early detection and treatment of breast cancer, breast health education and outreach. Nationwide, Komen Affiliates invested a total of $160 million in their local communities.
The Northeastern Pennsylvania Affiliate serves the following counties: Lackawanna, Luzerne, Wayne, Pike, Monroe, Susquehanna, Sullivan, Wyoming, Carbon, Clinton, Columbia, Lycoming, Montour, Northampton, Northumberland and Schuylkill.
